FAQ
Do I need to know programming to use Flipper Zero?
No. You can use Flipper Zero without any coding knowledge — it has a simple and intuitive user interface. However, you will still need a basic understanding of technologies like RFID, NFC, Sub-GHz, and Infrared to use the device effectively.
You can learn everything you need in the Flipper Zero Documentation
Do I need a computer to use it?
No. Flipper Zero is a fully autonomous device — you don’t need a computer or smartphone to use it. You will need a smartphone or computer to update its firmware.
We provide a mobile app for iOS/Android and a desktop app for Windows/macOS/Linux.
Check the Downloads for more details.
Will Flipper Zero work with my garage door, office card, etc.?
It depends. There are dozens of different NFC, RFID, and Sub-GHz systems from many vendors. Some are simple and can be easily scanned and analyzed, others use strong encryption and cannot be decoded. You can find a list of supported protocols for each technology in the Flipper Zero Documentation.
Since the firmware is continuously developed by the community, new protocols are added over time. If your specific system is not supported yet, you can join the Community and help add support to the Flipper Zero ecosystem.
What SD card do I need for Flipper Zero?
Flipper Zero uses a microSD card (not included) to store data and firmware updates.
The files are very small, so 16–32 GB is more than enough.
Avoid large cards like 128 GB — you will never use that much space, and compatibility may be worse. Choose a well-known brand.
Do not buy cheap $5 cards — many of them have poor support for the SPI mode that Flipper Zero uses to communicate with the SD card.
